From First Fitting to Final Walk
Your journey with us doesn’t end when you say “yes” to your dress — that’s just the beginning. Our alterations process is designed to ensure your gown fits flawlessly, so you can walk with confidence on your wedding day.
At your first fitting, you’ll meet with our experienced seamstress in your actual wedding shoes and undergarments. Together, we’ll evaluate the gown’s structure, length, and fit, and pin any adjustments needed.
Your second and third fittings are where the magic happens — each visit refines the fit, ensuring every seam and hem sits perfectly. Whether it’s adjusting straps, smoothing a bodice, or perfecting a train, every detail is handled with care.
Finally, at your final walk, you’ll slip into your gown one last time to see it exactly as it will appear on your big day. This is the moment to practice walking, twirling, and sitting — making sure your dress feels as perfect as it looks.
How Our Alterations Process Works
Every bride’s body is unique, which is why alterations are a natural and expected part of saying yes to a wedding dress. At White Swan Bridal, we’ve created a step-by-step process that keeps things stress-free:
Schedule your fittings early — we recommend starting 8–12 weeks before your wedding date.
Bring your essentials — shoes, undergarments, shapewear, and accessories help us achieve the most accurate fit.
Multiple fittings included — most brides require 2–3 fittings, with an optional fourth if needed.
Expert seamstress team — our alterations are performed by independent professionals specializing in bridal gowns, from simple hems to intricate lace adjustments.
Final pickup — your gown will be fitted, and ready for the aisle about 2 weeks before your event.
Throughout the process, we communicate clearly about timelines, pricing, and any additional work needed, so there are no surprises. Our goal is simple: to make sure you feel beautiful, secure, and comfortable when you walk down the aisle.
Schedule Your Fitting
Once your dress arrives, you’ll be invited to schedule your first alterations appointment with one of our specialists. You’ll want to bring your wedding shoes and undergarments to ensure the most accurate fit.
Let us help you feel as confident and radiant as the moment deserves — because every detail matters.
Alterations FAQs
We recommend scheduling your first fitting as soon as your gown arrives and you’ve confirmed your event date. Most brides begin their fittings 8–10 weeks before the wedding, with three appointments typically spaced over several weeks. Don’t forget to bring your wedding shoes and any undergarments you plan to wear — these details help us achieve the perfect fit.
Depending on how much work needed for your dress. Typically we schedule 3 appointments.
The hem is the length of the dress. Our gowns are usually all ordered in standard length, so you will need to “hem” your wedding dress to your height with heels.
The Bustle is a hoop that is stitched to your train and button that is stitched usually to the lower back of the dress. It helps lift the train of a wedding dress for easier movement and dancing during the reception.
Yes — even with a custom-made gown, alterations are typically still necessary. While we do our best to align the dress with your exact measurements, minor adjustments are often needed once the dress arrives. Since you weren’t physically present during the creation process, your gown may require slight tweaks for the perfect fit. Alterations ensure your dress hugs your body just right and feels as beautiful as it looks.
Please bring the shoes and undergarments (such as shapewear or special bras) you’ll be wearing on the day of your event. These items can change the way your dress fits, so it’s important to have them with you from the very first fitting. If you have any accessories or custom requests, feel free to bring those as well so we can see the full look together.
Alteration costs vary depending on the type of gown and the adjustments needed, but most brides can expect to spend between $350 and $800 for standard alterations. More detailed work — such as adding custom elements, significant resizing, or working with intricate lace or beading — may cost more.
We’ll provide a detailed estimate at your first fitting, and because we work with trusted independent alterations specialists, you’ll receive professional quality and transparent pricing tailored to your needs.
